We invite you to share in this celebration of books and reading with us. We invite your entire family to participate by purchasing the latest and greatest in children’s English and French books. Your support of this vital literary event is a key part of helping us obtain new books and resources for our library and classrooms. You’ll find hundreds of quality books at our Book Fair with a wide assortment for all reading levels. Visit the Scholastic Book Fairs website at www.scholastic.ca/bookfairs to read reviews of the Featured Books. To help your child find the newest and best books, he or she will visit the Fair during class time and can purchase books during that visit. It will start on Tuesday April 16 th . We will be setting up on the morning of this day. We will have one evening on Thursday April 25 th from 3:50-6pm. Book fair will be closed during morning and afternoon recess as well as lunch recess, thanks. The hours for the Book Fair are: Tuesday April 16 th 10-3:40 Thursday April 18 th 9:15-3:40 Friday April 19 th 9:15-3:40 Tuesday April 23 rd 9:15-3:40 Thursday April 25 th 9:15 -3:40 Evening hours: Thursday April 25 th 3:50-6 We are wrapping up at 1:15pm on April 26 th , thank you. Book Fair Chairperson We accept cash payment. Visa, MasterCard are welcome too. School Day Start Time Reminder Hello OLMC families and Welcome back from March Break! We hope that everyone had a restful week and that our students are ready to get back to learning. School Day Start Time A friendly reminder that the school day starts at 9:15 and that the schoolyard has supervision starting at 9:00. Many of our students who walk or get dropped off are coming in after 9:15am and this is causing issues and disrupting the learning of many students. It is important to note that homeroom teachers start their day with their morning routine that includes prayer, Oh Canada, and our School Daily News that includes important information regarding our school community. If your child walks or is dropped off, please ensure that they are at school before 9:15. All students must enter from the back school yard (kindergarten students enter through the kindergarten yard). Thank you for your assistance with this as we try our best to manage close to 15-20 student tardiness every day. Thank you for your ongoing support, Team OLMC Lenten Project 2024 Dear OLMC Community, The season of Lent is approaching and for our school’s Lenten project, we have decided to focus on an organization that has helped many newcomers to Canada and some of our own OLMC families. CCI Ottawa (Catholic Center for Immigrants Ottawa) This foundation promotes and supports newcomers to Canada. "In addition to the traditional settlement and integration services, including assistance with housing, employment, language training, school registration and childcare, the Catholic Centre for Immigrants offers enhanced services to help newcomers feel at home in Ottawa." For more information about the foundation you can visit https://ccifoundationottawa.ca/ We will collect coins as a community to donate to the organization at the end of Lent. Any Canadian coins are welcome and every little bit helps! We will start our collection this Thursday, February 15th and will have our last collection day on Tuesday, March 26th. May this Lent be a season of grace for you and your loved ones. Immunization Clinic Monday, January 15th, 2024 Hello PLMC Families Are your kids up to date with their routine childhood vaccines? Ottawa Public Health will be holding an Immunization Clinic at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School on Monday January 15, 20204 from 1:30pm to 7:00pm. Please note that from 1:30pm till 3:45pm parents of Our Lady of Mount Carmel School are welcome to join their children at the school for the clinic. Please bring your child’s immunization record with you. From 4:00pm till 7:00pm , the school community and any other community members are welcome to attend. Age altering filters mislead victims – blog post with information for parents/caregivers On March 30 th , C3P released a new blog post on our ProtectKidsOnline.ca website that includes information about face-altering filters, as well as tips for parents and caregivers to have conversations with their tweens/teens. To help schools share this information with families, we have created a ready-to-use social media post: https://www.kidsintheknow.ca/app/en/social_media . Online Risks and Trends – video In support of schools looking for online safety information to share with parents/caregivers, we have created short video titled Safeguarding Children and Youth: Online Risks and Trends . Some schools have shared this information with caregivers in newsletters, by email, or on social media. We also have designed web images that can be used to link directly from school websites. Intervention and Support Services – videos, resources, support C3P offers support services to those who have been victimized online.
